Specialized spaces in the Copernican Revolution Lab building

The Copernican Revolution Lab offers rental of workshop spaces, research rooms, focus rooms and R&D studios, seminar rooms, a FabLab room, the Living Lab facility, and interdisciplinary laboratories – equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for carrying out behavioral research. This infrastructure includes: 

  • an observation booth – a comfortable behind-the-scenes observation space for three people, screened off by a one-way mirror, with a computer recording station; 
  • a system of cameras, microphones and specialized software for analyzing the behavior of study participants (solutions from Noldus: Viso and Observer XT); 
  • mobile eye-trackers taking the form of glasses (Tobii Pro Glasses 3) together with analysis software (Tobii Pro Lab); 
  • sound systems enabling communication between the labs and observation booth; 
  • equipment used to fabricate advanced versions of prototypes (including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC milling machines and lathes); 
  • high-tech instruments and apparatus facilitating biological, chemical and physical experiments.

Interdisciplinary Laboratories

These are laboratories for developing the competencies of the 21st century. They are used for prototyping future R&D projects or for prototyping scenarios, workshop lessons, and projects that have a larger group of people working on them.

Physical and technological laboratory (dry/HI-TECH)

This lab covers nearly 70 m2 and houses 4 workstations (for a total of 8 people). The space is equipped with industrial robots, mechatronic workstations, an air dryer for laboratory glassware, 3D printers, an advanced humanoid robot and a safe.

Biological and chemical laboratory (wet/HI-TECH)

This lab covers nearly 68 m2 and houses 4 workstations (for a total of 8 people). The space is equipped with a variety of lab equipment, including: a laminar chamber, autoclaves, heating bowls, automatic pipettes, a fume hood, water bath, magnetic and mechanical stirrers, an ultrasonic cleaner, balances, a dishwasher, a water purification kit, balance, stirrer, pipettes, refrigerators, dryers, shakers.

Interdisciplinary laboratory (LO-TECH)

This lab covers over 170 m2 and can be divided into two separate spaces (of about 85 m2 each). Designed for larger groups, it can accommodate one group of 32 people, or two groups of 16. The space is equipped with: a large fume hood, a laminar chamber, sinks, balances, stirrers, dryers, microscopes, student binoculars and Lego block sets. Additional equipment includes one-way mirrors, a monitoring system (cameras, microphones), and observational and eye-tracking software for studying groups in a laboratory setting.

Fokusownie

Sala składa się z dwóch przestrzeni:  

  • przestrzeni warsztatowej o powierzchni 65 m2, dostosowanej do prowadzenia badań z udziałem dzieci, wyposażonej w stół, krzesła (w tym krzesła dziecięce), fotele, kanapy oraz aneks kuchenny; 

  • salki spotkań biznesowych o powierzchni 50 m2, w której znajdują się stoły, krzesła, tablica suchościeralna i flipchart. 

Obie sale można połączyć w jedną całość. Ich wyposażenie pozwala na szybką i łatwą aranżację w zależności od potrzeb. Pomieszczenia mają zaplecze obserwacyjne wyposażone w lustra weneckie, system monitoringu (kamery, mikrofony) oraz oprogramowanie do badań obserwacyjnych i eyetrackingowych. Można w nich prowadzić badania i obserwacje małych grup w warunkach przypominających mieszkanie lub klasę szkolną.

Sale warsztatowe

Przestrzeń warsztatowa ma powierzchnię 148 m² i można ją podzielić na dwie odrębne sale (o powierzchni 73 m² i 75 m²). Znajdują się w niej: mobilne ławki, krzesełka, ścianki wygłuszające, rzutnik i nagłośnienie.

Obie sale wyposażone są w lustra weneckie, system monitoringu (kamery, mikrofony) oraz oprogramowanie do badań obserwacyjnych i eyetrackingowych. Aranżacja przestrzeni pozwala na realizację badań i obserwację grup w warunkach i otoczeniu przypominającym klasę szkolną.

Prototyping Room

The Prototyping Room is a space where we create and test out new ideas for exhibits, experimentation stations, and teaching aids – following a method based on the prototyping process.  

With 108 m² of floor space, the Prototyping Room is equipped with worktables and a variety of wood and plastic processing tools, such as screwdrivers, hammers, clamps, saws, glues, drills, milling machines, jigsaws, power saws, a belt sander and a 3D printer.  The room also has an observation booth, equipped with a one-way mirror and data analysis equipment, allowing test results to be documented and analyzed. 

The objective of prototyping is to work out the best solutions for conveying particular content in a way that is consistent with the mission and strategic goals of the Copernicus Science Centre. Completed prototypes in various stages of development are tested with audiences to verify the assumptions made by their creators.

Carpentry, CNC, and Assembly Shop

This shop space has a total area of almost 158 m2. It is equipped with CNC milling plotters, devices for machining a wide range of materials (wood, particle board, MDF, OSB, plywood, PVC plastic, plexiglass, sandwich plates), a planer, wood lathe, edger, thickness planer, polishers, and hand-held power tools, as well as a 3D printer, PCB milling machine, industrial laser cutter and laser marking machine.  

The carpentry facilities can be used to produce any kind of wooden elements, from preparing the material to final processing and assembly. The shop is used to produce elements of exhibits, educational aids, as well as prototypes.
